- ALINCO DR-110 LCD READOUT REPAIR
- ================================
-
- This should also work for the DR-112 and DR-410
-
- Tools needed
-
- Low power solder pencil or solder station
- Solder wick or de-solder station
- Small dykes
- Small needle-nose pliers
- Hemostats
- Small/medium Philips screwdriver
- Solder
-
- 6 grain-of-wheat lights from Alinco or Radio Shack part no.272-1141 12Vdc
- .025A
- (the Radio Shack parts have nice pigtails on them and you do not need the
- yellow sleeves for them. Alternatively, use Radio Shack part no. 272-1092
- 12Vdc 60mA micro lamps. These do not have the insulated pigtails on them
- but are brighter).
-
- 1 - Remove top and bottom covers
-
- 2 - Remove 3 knobs from the front of the radio
-
- 3 - Remove nut from shaft of the channel selector
-
- 4 - Remove nut from the microphone connector
-
- 5 - Remove front plate from radio. This has plastic snap clips top and
- bottom, so take care.
-
- 6 - Remove 3 small philips screws holding the PCB to the front of the radio.
- Do not cut wires.
-
- 7*- Locate tabs that are holding the display to the PCB and bend them
- straight. Take care not to break them off.
-
- 8*- Remove display from PCB and set aside.
-
- * Steps 7 and 8 can be omitted if you can locate the two display lights
- from the back of the PCB.
-
- 9 - Locate lights (6). 1 is under the on/off switch, 3 are above the row of
- small switches. All 4 have a blue rubber cover on them. 2 lights are
- mounted where the LCD display was.
-
- 10- Replace the lights using care and remember to replace the blue covers on
- those which had them in the first instance. Remember to replace the
- yellow sleeving on the lights which illuminate the LCD.
-
- 11- Re-install the LCD display, ensuring there is no contamination of the
- contacts on either the LCD or the PCB. Using the tabs, ensure the LCD is
- tight to the PCB otherwise the contact will be poor, resulting in missing
- segments on the display.
-
- 12- Test the display by powering up the radio before complete reassembly.
-
- 13- Reset the CPU as per the owner's manual. This is a precaution as the CPU
- is located on the board you have been working on.
